MemeChef is run by Code Cowboy Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong. We are the data controller for the information described here and we handle personal data in line with the UK and EU GDPR where those laws apply. We may update this policy from time to time; the current version is always on this page. If something isn't clear, email contact@memechef.ai.
What we collect and why
We collect your email and a password (or the basic profile info Google gives us if you sign in with Google), the prompts, photos, and memes you put through the service, basic usage data like which pages you visit and your approximate location from your IP, and billing records if you've paid. A third-party processor handles card details; we never see your card number.
We use this data to run your account, give you the features you asked for, process payments, send you essential service emails, fix bugs, and comply with the law. Marketing emails are consent-based and you can opt out at any time.
We don't build face recognition from your photos, we don't sell your data, and we don't use your uploads to train AI models made available to other users.
Sharing and transfers
We use a small number of third-party providers to run MemeChef (for things like payments, email delivery, and AI image generation). They process data on our behalf under contracts. Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the US, the EU, and Hong Kong. Where we transfer personal data of UK or EU residents out of the UK or EEA, we rely on the standard legal safeguards (the European Commission's SCCs or the UK IDTA). We don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
Account and content data while your account is open. Billing records for up to 7 years for tax reasons. Usage logs for up to 90 days. Backups roll over within 30 days. If you close your account we delete or anonymise your data on this schedule.
Your rights
If you're in the UK, EU, or somewhere with similar laws, you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, export it, stop certain processing, or withdraw consent. Email contact@memechef.ai and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection regulator (in the UK that's the ICO).
Photos
If you upload a photo for the Personal Sticker Pack, you can delete it at any time from your account or by emailing us. We'll remove it from active storage within 7 days and from backups within 30 days. Only upload photos of people who have agreed to be processed this way. Never upload photos of minors.
